Pope John Paul II Awards Night 2021

Congratulations to all 300 recipients of this year’s Pope John Paul II Award from Kildare & Leighlin Diocese.

On 13th Oct, Bishop Denis Nulty presented 43 Papal Cross recipients with their medal at the 12th Annual JP2 Award Ceremony in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow. The Master of ceremonies, Fr. David Vard, welcomed the families of the Papal Cross recipients along with the Award Leaders and Parish and school representatives who attended on behalf of the 25 Bronze, 28 Silver and 204 Gold recipients who tuned in virtually with their families. 29 parishes were represented on the night as well as 27 schools.

Following the presentation of medals, Bishop Denis addressed all recipients:

“Pope Francis speaks very often directly to young people. ‘The Church needs you, your enthusiasm, your creativity and the joy that is so characteristic of you …. You can be joyful witnesses of His love, courageous witnesses of His Gospel, carrying to this world a ray of His light.’

As JPII Awardees you are all worth more than gold, silver and bronze, even the Papal Cross award – you are worth more because of your engagement, your involvement, your participation in your parish, your school and wider community. I wish you every blessing and once again thank your priests who encourage you, your teachers who inspire you and your Award Leaders who mentor you.”
