Up to 100 young people gathered with the Askea Parish community in Carlow for the Kildare and Leighlin Diocesan Launch of World Youth Day 2011.
Mgr Brendan Byrne, Diocesan Administrator, celebrated Mass with the pilgrims intending to travel to Madrid for World Youth Day next August. During the evening two young people shared their experience of the last World Youth Day in Sydney recalling their stories of fun, adventure and the central importance of the common ingredient that connects all those who come in huge numbers to World Youth Day, their Faith.
Mgr Byrne told the young people
‘how important they are to our Church and how the Church of the future depends on them’.
He encouraged them
‘to be an example to others as they explore the meaning and purpose of their lives’.
After Mass there was an opportunity for the group to meet their fellow pilgrims from numerous parishes throughout the diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. Throughout the year ahead the group will be involved in preparation meetings, fundraising, formation and much more before they jet off to Madrid next August.
All those hoping to travel with the diocese must be aged 17 or older and officially registered by October 15th,
