This appointment of a Religious Education Coordinatorwould be in line with the provision of other coordinators in key areas of the curriculum. Some of our schools have already made such an appointment and it is hoped that most others will follow suit during the coming year.

This appointment would be in line with the provision of other coordinators in key areas of the curriculum and is seen as an increasingly important need in today’s Catholic Schools. The person appointed would work with the principal and all staff members to resource, support and promote the work of religious education.

The job description would include:

  • Resourcing teachers
  • Supporting and providing for liturgy and prayer in the school
  • Liaising with parish
  • Liaising with Diocesan Advisors
  • Facilitating and encouraging visits from parish personnel
  • Supporting parents in the religious formation of their child

The kind of person that would be best suited for this post would have some of the following abilities and characteristics:

  • A passion for religious education
  • Be committed to the faith development of young people
  • Have experience in teaching religious education in the school
  • Be committed to their own ongoing professional development in this area
  • Be committed and willing to explore the nature of the future of religious education for young people in this country
