Bishop Denis has launched the start of the process by which new Boards of Management will be put in place in all 164 Catholic Primary Schools of which he is Patron. As this very important task begins he acknowledged and thanked all those who have served on Boards of Management in the diocese over the last 4 years. 1312 people have given of their time, expertise and time to serve voluntarily on boards and this is much appreciated by him, school staffs, parents, students and the parish communities in which our Catholic schools are so deeply embedded.
Parish priests have already been working closely with principals and chairpersons to identify new Chairpersons and Patron Nominees where needed and this has given the whole process a great foundation on which to begin the next stage as outlined in the Governance Manual for Primary Schools 2019-2023 which was published by the Department of Education and Skills on September 24.
In order to facilitate the smooth transition between Boards Bishop Denis has invited the current chairpersons to oversee the process of electing Parent and Teacher nominees and the selection of Community Nominees.
The Diocesan Education Office has provided a timetable to help navigate the relatively short time frame within which this work has to be completed.
Parish Priests have been asked to complete Section A & B of Form 1 and return it to Maeve by Friday, October 18.
Finally, once all members of the new board are in place, the current chairpersons are asked to complete the Patron’s Form and return it to Maeve before Monday, November 18.
