On 9th January 2011 there will be a referendum in Sudan, in which southern states will vote on possible secession from the north of the country. It is a moment of hope – and of fear.
Now more than ever, the country that only five years ago emerged from Africa’s longest civil war needs the support of the international community to prevent the return to full-scale violent conflict and to build a lasting peace.
Caritas Internationalis is a global movement working in solidarity for a fairer world, inspired by the example of Christian faith and Catholic Social Teaching.
The 162 national Caritas members make the biggest network of Catholic charities in the world devoted to reducing poverty and campaigning for social justice.
Most members have Caritas in their names, but not always – e.g. Trócaire here in Ireland
