In 2008 the Patrican Brothers are celebrating the bicentenary of their foundation by Bishop Delany.

Patricians Brothers from around the world

The Papal Nuncio, Dr. Giuseppe Leanza was the chief celebrant along with Bishop Moriarty and Bishop Patrick Nair from India. Bishop Nair travelled to Tullow to honour the Congregation which has served the Church in India so well, along with Australia, Pakistan, USA, Kenya, Papua New Guinea and most recently in Ghana.

This global reach was reflected by Br Camillus Regan, the Irish Provincial, who said during the ceremony, the sun never sets on the Patricians.

In founding the Patrician Brothers on 2nd February 1808 in Tullow, Co. Carlow, Bishop Daniel Delanys intention was to address the social evils of his time and raise the living standards of the people through education.

This remarkable man, who dedicated his life to working for the poor, gave us the ultimate ‘mission statement’ when he said on his death bed:

“Love God and live togetherin peace and charity.”

Since then the Brothers have spread right around the globe, seeking out those most in need of education, support and the love of God. Living in community with one another, working as teachers in the broadest sense of the word, Patrician Brothers continue to strive to live up to the ideals of their founder expressed in that simple sentence.
