Invitation to Opening of Year of Faith


Monsignor Brendan Byrne invites parishioners from the Diocese to join with him in celebrating the opening of the Year of Faith with Evening Prayer in Carlow Cathedral on October 11th, 2012 at 7.30pm with guest speaker Rev Prof Brendan Leahy (Maynooth College).

Fr Brendan Leahy

Fr Brendan Leahy was ordained for the Dublin Diocese in 1986.  He is Professor of Systematic Theology at St Patricks College Maynooth

He is also a member of Inter-Church Meeting and of Three Faiths Forum of Ireland, chairman of Dublin diocesan ecumenical committee in Dublin diocese, member of ITA, corresponding member of the Pontifical Theology Academy, Co-chair of the Theology Forum of the Irish Inter-Church Meeting and a visiting lecturer at the Sophia University Institute, Loppiano, Florence.

Year of Faith

In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith that will begin on 11 October 2012, on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and will conclude on 24 November 2013, the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.

Diocesan Programme

Events throughout the coming year include a Diocesan Congress on March 8th/9th, 2013 following on from the success of our first diocesan congress in 2012 and a Schools Congress on Thursday March 7th in Carlow.

There will also be a Lenten series for parishes ‘I Believe, We Believe’.
