K&L at the Annual Grandparents Pilgrimage 2015
The Kildare & Leighlin Diocesan Choir were invited to sing with Fr. Liam Lawton yesterday at the annual Grand-Parents pilgrimage at Knock Shrine. Thousands of people filled the newly renovated Basilica to overflowing as Bishop Brendan Leahy of Limerick Diocese was the main celebrant. The oldest participant was 102 and 5 generations of one family brought the Offertory gifts to the Altar.
This was the 9th annual pilgrimage and the huge numbers reflect the popularity and respect this gathering holds in the hearts of all who gathered.
It was the first time the Kildare and Leighlin Diocesan Choir were invited to sing at the event but the large choir received a very positive reaction afterwards. “The organist who is the Musical Director at Knock is Una Nolan, originally from Newtown, Kilcock was a previous member of the Kildare& Leighlin Diocesan choir and was it great to have Una play with us ” said Fr. Liam . The other soloist was Julianne Woods from Carlow .
” I was very proud of the Choir who certainly beautifully enhanced the liturgy”.
