Reposing in St. Joseph’s Church, Ballyadams from 3pm today (Monday 4th July)
Prayers Monday evening at 7.30 p.m.
Requiem mass on Tuesday at 2pm
followed by burial in St. Joseph’s cemetery Ballyadams.
Fr Lar Fleming RIP
Fr Lar Fleming was born on 20th April 1927. His homeplace was Ballynoe, Ardattin, Co. Carlow.
He was educated at Ardattin National School, the Patrician Brothers Secondary School in Tullow and Knockbeg College.
He studied for the priesthood in St Patrick’s College, Maynooth. His ordination toook place on 22nd June 1952.
Next year would have been the Diamond Jubilee (60th) anniversary of his ordination.
His first appointment was to the Parish of Clonmore in 1952, living in Ballyconnell.
In 1956 he was transferred to the Parish of Clonaslee where he served for seven years until he was transferred in 1963 to the Curragh Camp to serve as an Army Chaplain.
His service as an Army Chaplain lasted fourteen years, which included time in Cyprus with Irish troops on the UN Mission there.
In 1977 he was appointed Parish Priest of Ballyadams Parish – where he stayed for 23 years until his ‘retirement’ in 2000.
In retirement Fr Fleming provided Mass supply in many locations including the Cathedral Parish where he said Mass in various nursing homes.
His brother Fr Joe is the Adminstrator in Clonegal Parish.
