This year’s Newbridge Parish Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help will have family as its focus as the parish continues its preparations for the 9th World Meeting of Families which will take place in Dublin from 21 – 26 August this year. The theme of the WMOF2018 is ‘The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World’ which is echoed in the theme chosen by the parish for this year’s Novena which is ‘The Joy of Love in Marriage and the Family’.

The Novena will run for nine consecutive Monday nights from Monday 9th April – Monday 4th June. The Novena will be opened by Bishop Denis Nulty, Bishop of Kildare of Leighlin. Other speakers will include the team from Cuan Mhuire on how addiction can impact a family and Mefalda Brennan who will be speaking about the work of Accord Catholic Marriage Care Service.

Father Willie Purcell, a priest of the diocese of Ossory and National Coordinator for Diocesan Vocations will speak about how the vocation to priesthood can be nurtured in the family.

Sister Joan Roddy will speak about direct provision and how that can impact in so many different ways on family life.

Father David Vard is sure of a very warm welcome home when he returns to his home parish for the final night of the Novena on Monday 4th June.

Speaking ahead of the Novena, Parish Priest, Father Paul Dempsey said, “The family continues to be good news for the Church and for society. In our reflections during our Novena nights we hope to take time out to hear about the joys and challenges of family life today. We are also looking forward to hearing some personal stories and to be inspired by the testimonies of those we have invited to share their story with u.  All are welcome to the year’s Novena.”

The Novena will take place every Monday night at 7.30pm in Saint Conleth’s Parish Church in Newbridge. for the following nine Monday nights until XXX June. Music for the Novena nights will be provided by local choirs and cantors. All are welcome to come and take time to reflect on the joy of love in family life as part of this year’s Novena.
