New Proofs for the existence of God
By Robert Spitzer, S.J., Ph.D.
In his new book “New Proofs for the Existence of God: Contributions of Contemporary Physics and Philosophy” (Eerdmans, 2010), Robert Spitzer SJ speaks about compelling evidence for the beginning of a universe from space-time geometry (the Borde-Vilenkin-Guth Theorem 2003, and the Borde-Vilenkin Proof –1993) and from the second law of thermodynamics (entropy). He also speak about the evidence of a beginning from the mathematical argument (implicit in the work of David Hilbert) against actual infinities constituting aggregative wholes.
Magis Center of Reason and Faith
Our Mission: To explore and share the close connection between reason and faith as revealed by new discoveries in astrophysics and philosophy.
MCRF’S goal: To explain the consistency between faith, physics and philosophy.
The Magis Center of Reason and Faith has embarked on five Major Projects.
Documentaries: “In the Beginning”
To spread the message that faith and reason are inherently compatible, we are creating four documentaries exploring the connections among science, philosophy, theology, and history. The first of these, titled “In the Beginning,” will become available in December 2010.
To provide high school students, college students and adult populations with scientific and philosophical foundations to support and defend their faith.
To publish books, articles, and editorials strengthening the connection between religion and reason, while supporting the faith.
To assemble a group of physicists, philosophers, and experts in related fields to provide a response to materialism and atheism in the media.
To provide materials (such as podcasts and other educational resources and downloads), responses to questions, and discussion opportunities for seekers worldwide.
