Read a report from the Schools Conference which took place on 8th March where over 500 students from the diocese came together.

Over 500 students and staff from 19 Post Primary Schools in the diocese came together in St Leo’s College, Carlow on Thursday 8th March to mark the beginning of the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress. The School’s Congress had a dynamic programme of talks, music, dance, drama, prayer and reflection. Fr Benny Mc Hale from Co Mayo was the main speaker for the day and music was provided by Elation Ministries a group of young people from different parts of Ireland committed to spreading the Gospel message through music. The drama was performed by students from Presentation College Carlow and there was hip hop dancing from young people representing Carlow Youth Service. St Leo’s College had students involved in the liturgical dance for the presentation of the gifts. During the day young people had a chance to take some time out to write their personal prayer petitions at the ‘Lenten Sacred Space’ or to light a candle for their intentions.

The feedback from the 19 schools from different parts of the diocese was very positive. One 17 yr old student said “I had a brilliant day, if I was listening to Fr Benny at Mass every week it could go on for hours”. The day ended in the Celebration of Mass and young people went away hopefully encouraged in their faith and certainly a little more aware of the idea of ‘Congress’ and what will be happening in the Irish Church this coming June.

As a testament to how much they enjoyed the day several students returned on Sat 10th March to St Patrick’s College Carlow to participate in the parallel youth programme for the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress ‘A Place at the Table’.
