Celebrating 50 Years of Sacrosanctum Concilium
The National Centre for Liturgy is holding a two day celebration of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium, promulgated at the Second Vatican Council on 4 December 1963, fifty years ago. The principal speaker is J Michael Joncas, the well-known composer and scholar from St Paul-Minneapolis. The celebration includes a round table with Michael on Friday afternoon, 22 November, with a panel of speakers, including Bishop Harold Miller of Down and Dromore, chair of the Church of Ireland Liturgical Advisory Committee, Sr Anne Codd, well-known in this magazine, Fr Peter McVerry, SJ and Dr Frank Lawrence of the School of Music, UCD.
A public lecture by Michael Joncas takes place on Friday evening, with a response from Julie Kavanagh. On Saturday, 23 November, Michael will hold a music workshop. The timing is very appropriate. 22 November is feast of St Cecilia, patron of music.
