Adult initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist

Seven adults, six of whom reside in the Asylum Centre in Emo, were welcomed into the Catholic church when they received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist and in a special ceremony in the Heath Church, Portlaoise on 15 August 2009 – The Feast of the Assumption.

The support of  local parishoners was greatfully appreciated, especially from those who offered to be god-parents of the candidates.

The ceremony was officiated by Fr. Peter Uzochukwu from Nigeria who is spending this year in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin to assist with its outreach to the African Catholic community together with Mgr John Byrne, PP of Portlaoise.
