<itunes:summary>A welcome for your child’ – was written by our own Julie Kavanagh and Maeve Mahon. In this interview they discuss the celebration of the sacrament of baptism.
This interview made available by RNN

This 80 page book is published by Veritas.
It is intended to help parents, godparents and the whole family as they prepare for this important celebration. It may also be of use to parish baptism teams in their work of helping families to become more familiar with the ceremony.
In the course of its celebration those present will experience a rich tapestry of symbols, actions, gestures, prayers and the Word of God. Together, these elements work to try to communicate something of the deep meaning of baptism for the child, the family and the wider Christian community.
The book explores each element of the Rite of Baptism and offers an accompanying explanation to help parents and godparents to understand more fully what is happening at each stage of the ceremony. It contains suggestions for preparing at home for the celebration, for becoming involved in the liturgy itself and also offers some guidelines for godparents.
Finally it reminds us that baptism is only the beginning of our journey of faith and it offers some very simple things for families to do so that the light of faith lit at baptism remains burning brightly.
