The 6th Annual National Grandparents Pilgrimage will take place at Knock Shrine on Sunday 9th September.
Ceremonies begin on 9th September with The Rosary and The Blessing of the Sick at 2.30pm. Mass will be celebrated at 3pm
Chief celebrant and homilist will be Fr Benny McHale well known and much loved priest of the Diocese of Tuam
The Dunmore choir from Co Galway will lead the singing and we are delighted that Dana will be with us too
Catherine Wiley who started the pilgrimages here in 2006 and is the founder of the Catholic Grandparents Association will give the Postcommunion Reflection.
This pilgrimage is held every year to honour Sts Joachim and Anne …the parents of Mary and Grandparents ofJesus….and all Grandparents to thank them for all they have done for us and for the Church down through the years.
As the Year of Faith approaches it is essential that Grandparents are acclaimed and acknowledged for the vital role they play in the Passing on of the Faith which is the mission statement of the Catholic Grandparents Association
We encourage all Grandparents and their families to join us on the day but come early as we expect over 10,000 people to attend.
Request for Prayers from children
The Catholic Grandparents Association asks for your help please!
Each year in the run up to our National Grandparents Pilgrimage at Knock we ask the children of Ireland to write a prayer for their Grandparents and send it to us .
The prayers can be sent to us individually or a school may want to send them in together as an offering from the school as a whole
The prayers would have to reach our office by 7th September.
The prayers are displayed around the basilica on the day and will then be carried up to the altar in the entry procession of the Mass.
Children, their Grandparents and their families are welcome to join in the celebrations on 9th September.
