This Lent we choose to remember that we celebrate the Year for Priests this year. In that spirit, our theme this year is “Model your life on the mystery of the Lord’s Cross!”

While many painful events in our country have overshadowed this year’s theme, during this time of Lent we might remember our priest particularly as we use this prayer booklet. In a sense never has there been a greater need for any group to walk the Lenten way of Reconciliation, dying to one reality so as to arise to another than for priests and for the Church in general in Ireland.

The words “Model your life on the mystery of the Lord’s Cross!” are the last words spoken to a newly ordained priest in the Rite of Ordination.  They have a powerful meaning in these days as we struggle to find a path of reconciliation and a new way to spread the Gospel of hope in the midst of the chronic sense of discouragement and scandal over the past few months.
